Last on, first off
Put jewellery on after perfume, cream and hairspray, and take it off before showering, swimming or sleeping.
Cleaning
Buff with a dry microfibre cloth after wear. For set stones use a soft brush with lukewarm water and a drop of mild soap, then dry completely.
Plating
Gold and rhodium plating is a surface finish. Sweat, chlorine and alcohol-based products wear it away, so keep contact to a minimum.
Storage
Keep each piece in its own pouch so chains do not tangle and stones do not scratch one another. A dry box beats a bathroom shelf.
Pearls and enamel
Wipe with a damp cloth only. Never soak, and never use ultrasonic cleaners.
Professional restoration
Repairs, re-dyeing, stitch reinforcement and hardware renewal are best left to a specialist. Home remedies usually cost more than they save.
